Wine Details

“Dante was my father’s favorite vineyard dog, and was well known for protecting the vineyard and bringing out the best in all of us while farming. When a vintage warrants a special reserve, due to exceptional quality, we look to Dante for inspiration to make the best possible Cabernet Sauvignon that we can.

Dante's Block is a rare showcase of the best rows of our old vine vineyard. Because of our new approach to small-batch fermentation - which occurs in fourteen distinct lots within our old-vine vineyard - we can determine which areas of the vineyard are performing exceptionally well in any given year. We have diverse soil series in this area, which results in significant variation in phenolic ripeness. Small batch picking and fermentation allows us to isolate the very best grape clusters within the vineyard with magnificent particularity. We hand sorted the best lots to create this special Cabernet Sauvignon just for our most loyal customers. You will never see this wine released to the public.”

Tasting Notes
Deep and brooding in the glass, there is a mineral tension in the nose that offers blackberry, plum, dusty loam, pencil shavings, marzipan, caramel, and licorice, yielding to delicate top notes of linalool and bay laurel. The fruit and character of Oakville shine through in the mouth. The entry is lush and voluminous with dense, concentrated, cherry pie fruit balanced nicely with sweet tannins. Structurally, it has fantastic mid-palate retention with a generous, tactile sense and presence. Oak tannins are well integrated and support the ripe lush fruit, while the woody notes convey richness and texture. The finish rounds out with peppercorns, black tea, and espresso. Dense, dark fruit fades gradually with graceful length
