Howell Mountain
Wine Details

“This classic grape is happiest grown in slightly cooler regions and heavier soils. That makes Howell Mountain the ideal location for growing Merlot. Our winemaker, Anne Vawter, selected the Las Posadas vineyard because of its ideal soil composition, namely volcanic, and its proximity to some of the mountain's most famous producers. Farmed by a good friend, this site has amazing character and balance. We are very excited to share this discovery with you.”

Tasting Notes
"First to the nose are notes of ripe purply-blue fruits like huckleberry and blueberry along with anisette, violet and the freshness of lemony pine. Complex and powerful, yet pretty and feminine, the nose rounds out with the sweet and delicate characters of raspberry candy and honeyed amber. On the palate, there is jammy concentrated raspberry fruit with a dusty, almost lavender quality that speaks to the Howell Mountain roots. Much of the weight sits at the center of the mouth with a nice tactile element of cacao nibs edging to dark chocolate at the back. Black brambly fruit is balanced with vanillin, light caramel, and creamy notes from well-integrated, custom barrels. The finish is graceful, pure and an absolute pleasure to taste. There is excellent persistence in the mouth with a lengthy finish of sweet tannin and dark chocolate coupled with an uplifting purity of fruit. This plush, smooth mouth ends gently with a hint of clove and resinous allspice."
